Calendula Officianalis (aka Pot Marigold) is one of those flowers that could quite easily be overlooked were it not for its reputation as a real skin superstar. This unassuming flower won’t win any beauty contests and its fragrance is average to say the least, but what it lacks in sensory appeal it makes up for in sheer ability. The true power is found in the petals of this little humble flower as it is known the world over for its ability to restore, soothe and heal damaged skin.
Calendula has been used for hundreds of years as a herbal remedy for a variety of skin issues. Today it is very popular in homeopathic treatments for diaper rash, acne, stretch marks, and many other skin problems that can benefit from its remarkable anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Calendula petals are typically harvested by hand and used to make a tincture or added to an oil to make an infusion. While these tinctures and oil infusions retain some of the skin healing and restorative properties, we’ve taken it one step further and incorporated the distilled essential oil of the flower itself. We’ve found the potency of the essential oil to be unmatched in skin healing ability and that is why it’s an integral ingredient in our Orange & Ginger Balm, Cinnamon & Mint Balm and of course our Calendula Super Salve. The high cost of the essential oil is often a big deterrent for many producers of body care products, but we’ve stuck with it as we know that our customers are well worth it.
We were so impressed with this little gem that we decided to incorporate it’s humble beauty into G.B.’s logo. Try some of our calendula products and we’re sure that you will be as amazed as we were when we first discovered this amazing little flower!
